Gareth Thomas’ League debut

To be honest ducking into a tackle isn't the best idea. He lasted half an hour and looks like he'll take a little longer to learn the game properly.

Barrow v Keighley highlights

Given that this is the second highlight video to pop up on YouTube involving Keighly I'm going to guess Micky1920 is a Keighly fan (ok it's pretty obvious from his you tube page) Still I'm not sure as a Keighley fan I would've put this online "another bad day at the office" indeed!

Widnes v Keighly

For those of you who happen to be Widnes fans (like me) here's a highlight video from this weekends game against Keighly, posted on YouTube by MICKY1920.

Keighly fans may not want to press play.

Well done Barrow

Barrow won the Championship playoff final yesterday in Warrington beating Halifax 26 – 18 and well done to them. Once upon a time it would have meant promotion but no longer.

Still watching Halifax lose reminded me of this ridiculous campaign from earlier in the season

Whilst I wouldn’t want to gloat it’s good to see people spouting these ridiculous ideas getting proof of why they were ridiculous ideas in the first place. That said there’s always room for a daft suggestion or two in Rugby League, club call anyone?

Melbourne Storm to victory and Leeds club call as expected.

Look at that, headline writing like you’d get in the Daily Star. But literary genius aside there was some good rugby played this weekend and I’ll probably watch it all again on the Super League Show in a bit.

Down under Melbourne attoned for last years hammering by taking their third NRL title with a 23-16 win over Paramatta and I can’t really say much. Since the whole Setanta thing I don’t even know what channel the NRL is on over here and since I support the Warriors their poor performance this season has sucked a little of the interest out for me. Also the possible fact that last season I was in New Zealand and this season I’m not, that probably had an effect.
Still from what I’ve read it was a good game with Paramatta staging a late push but it’s rare you’ll find someone to bet against Melbourne in a Grand Final even after last years defeat.

In this hemispehere we had the play off semi finals in which Leeds got to play their pick of Catalan Dragons and Saints faced up to Wigan and well that went pretty much as expected. Leeds probably got a tougher game than they were expecting but they won and Saints had a tough run against Wigan but also won, which unusally gives us a Saints Leeds grand final, again. It would be nice if someone else could contest this at some point but yet again some came close but couldn’t quite make it. As for the actual grand final, hmmm my money would probably go on Leeds for another victory.

Challenge Cup weekend

Yes I got to watch some Rugby Leauge thanks to the joys of the BBC. Whilst the Aussies were causing more trouble down under the BBC were bringing us coverage of the toungue twisting Warrington Wolves versus Wigan Warriors in Widnes and Saints versus Huddersfield in Warrington.

As I was back in Widnes for the weekend the Warrington game was a little strange as I heard the crowd before things happened, so everytime a break was made I'd already heard the cheers for the try – sounds strange.
The games though were good with Warrington and Wigan battling out a great game as Warrington marched to the final for the first time in over a decade and signalled their complete turn around from their poor start.

The weekend surely belonged to Huddersfield though who ended Saints 3 year grip on the trophy with a great performance at Warrington.

And well I've not much more to say, what a useless post – I'm just glad I got to watch some rugby!

Super League Round Up : Round 23

Results from the weekends Super League action.

Starting on Friday with a good result for Wigan thrashing Hull 66-6. The Warriors, coming from the back of 3 straight defeats consolidate 5th place as we start to look towards the business end of the season.

Friday@rsquo;s other fixture saw Hull KR send the visiting French fans from Catalan home on the worse side of a 30-16 defeat. A good result for the KR fans with the team putting in a good attacking and defensive performance. One notable absentee was Paul Cooke who rumors are abounding this week will be leaving the club.
